Project Part 2
This course has a five-part individual project included. For this project, you will select one crime that interests you. You will research that crime, detail its typology (origin), identify the most likely victims of the crime, define which theory of criminology the crime best fits and explain how, research the current prevalence of that crime, its most common location and current deterrence strategies.
Each section will be comprised of a 500 to 700-word paper (approximately 2 pages, 1-inch margins, 12pt font, double spaced). Each section will include a cover page and a reference page that do not count towards the word requirement. Your instructor will provide you feedback on each section.
During Week 7, you will make any suggested changes to your previous four sections and then combine them into one APA-styled paper (To include a title page, abstract, and reference page), which should total 2,000 to 2,500 words (approximately 8 pages, not including title page or reference page, 1-inch margins, 12pt font, double spaced) and submit it. You will also complete a slide show presentation (minimum 12 slides, not including reference slides) that highlights the crime you selected, who the victims are, the criminological theory that best fits the crime, the prevalence of the crime, it’s most common locales, and current deterrence methods, which all come from your final paper. Your presentations will be graded for both content (spelling, grammar, use of resources) and appearance (graphics, diagrams, charts, templates).
The project is broken down as follows:
Week 2: Identify the crime
Week 3: Victimization
Week 5: Identify the Theory of Criminology that best fits.
Week 6: Research prevalence, locale, and deterrence methods
Week 7: Present Final Report / PowerPoint
For Week 3:
Now that you have selected a crime that interests you create a 500 to 700-word paper (approximately 2 pages, 1-inch margins, 12pt font, double spaced) that:
· Identifies the most likely victim, or group of victims, that would pertain to your crime. For example, robbery victims could be institutions like banks or individual people. Rape victims can be male or female or transgender. Detail who the most likely intended victim group (men, women, people, businesses, elderly citizens, etc.) would be for your selected crime.
· Discuss which theory of victimization best fits your victims and explain why you think so.
· Research what types of victim services may be available to your victims and explain their purpose. How do they seek to serve victims?
· You must utilize a minimum of two sources in this paper. Your textbook can count as one. Make sure you include a reference page. Your instructor will provide you feedback on your essay. Make any suggested changes or corrections as you will utilize this essay as part of the final project due Week 7
