Transitioning from an academic student into a newly graduated nurse in the clinical practice, the ANAs code of ethic provisions one and four will better help me transition smoothly and diligently. In the ANAs code of ethics provision one describes how the nurse should practice in the clinical setting with compassion and respect of every patients dignity (The American Nurses Association, 2001). This provision will help me transition into the clinical practice by reminding myself of my purpose of being a nurse by providing compassion to my patients while respecting them as an individual. Being a nurse, it is extremely pertinent to keep in mind that building rapport with the patient, providing compassion, and respecting the patients autonomy is crucial. In provision four it describes how the nurse has authority and will take accountability and responsibility for their actions in the clinical setting when providing optimal care to all patients consistently (The American Nurses Association, 2001). This provision is extremely important to remind me that while practicing in the clinical setting to always practice within your scope, abide by the Texas Board of Nursing rules and regulations of the nursing practice act. While being a nurse it is always best, to practice in a safe way by adhering within your scope, abiding by the rules and regulations, and taking accountability if any medication errors or incidents that may arise you take accountability and report them; to avoid any further discipline from the board of nursing.
