Greetings and Welcome to our first discussion!
Chapter One emphasizes several key economic questions: what, how, and for whom? The governor, legislature, and voters constantly grapple with those questions as well when designing the state budget. Since Cerro Coso College is located in California, considering some options to the state’s finances might be useful.
Pretend that you are the governor of California. What budget ideas would you propose?
Think in terms of numbers: how much will your programs cost if enacted? How much will the programs cost if they are not enacted? If proposing tax cuts, how much revenue will be lost? How much would a tax cut provide to an individual?
Remember that as the elected governor, you have pledged to represent the interests of all of the state’s residents.
Not certain where to begin? Try this link for some ideas, Governor: http://www.budgetchallenge.org/pages/home  (Links to an external site.)
Your discussion post should be approximately 150—200 words. Be sure to check your post for spelling and grammar errors, since the post will be graded on content, grammar, and spelling. Please let me know if you have any concerns about your posts.
Reminder: Discussions always close on Saturday night at 11:59 PM. Please don’t wait until the night of the deadline to post–the forum is a chance to discuss an idea in a relaxed environment. Have fun!
