The definition of action research is an applied scholarly paradigm resulting in action for a specific context offering faculty immediate payback by improving his or her own teaching and providing explicit documentation for meeting their educational responsibilities (Young et al.). Action research fits as a primary method of educational research because it allows teachers to collaborate on instructional best practices in the classroom that will improve students academic performance. It does so by having teachers reflect on their own instruction and share their findings with other educators that will help to improve student learning. Therefore, teachers develop shared practices based on self-reflection research. This is often practiced within educational departments where each teacher researches a problem in student learning that they are able to provide interventions that will enhance student academic outcomes. Thus, teachers use scientific studies that stem from systematic educational research that changes teaching within the classroom.
